Spectrophotometric determination of the herbicide ethofumesate in aqueous solutions by an azo coupling method

Abstract

A procedure for the determination of low concentrations (10–4–10–5M) of the herbicide ethofumesate in aqueous solutions is described. The method is based on the hydrolysis of ethofumesate in alkaline medium at elevated temperature, azo coupling the hydrolysate with diazotised sulphanilic acid and spectrophotometric measurement of the red azo dye formed. The results obtained agree with those obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography.
