Fluorescence inner filtering in double-pass cell configurations. Part 4. Interdependence of primary and secondary inner filtering
Abstract
In the previous paper in this series, and in papers on inner filtering in single-pass cell configurations, it is normally assumed that primary and secondary inner filtering can be treated independently. All equations presented to date support this assumption; however, recent work indicates that these two effects are not independent under conditions of gross inner filtering and/or in some instrument configurations. The results of these studies are far reaching in that they indicate that, for example, simple equations correcting data for secondary inner filtering under conditions of gross primary inner filtering, and where no secondary inner filtering exists (and vice versa), may over- or under-correct the data.
