Temperature dependence of an oxygen transfer reaction induced by the oxidation of a nitro complex of ruthenium(II), trans-[RuCl(NO2)(py)4](py = pyridine)

Abstract

A single electron oxidation of a nitro complex of RuII at 25 °C gives three complexes containing (RuIV[double bond, length as m-dash]O2–), (RuIII-OH), and (RuII–NO+) moieties as final products, while two products involving (RuIII–ONO2) and (RuII–NO+) are formed at ca.–40 °C; at 25 °C the reaction appears to proceed from an intermediate species involving an (RuIII–O) moiety, generated during the oxidation process.
