Second-moment condition of a smeared-out lattice-like charge distribution

Abstract

It is shown that the second moment of a regular lattice-like distribution of ions is zero. As a consequence the second-moment condition of a smeared-out lattice-like charge distribution can be used in calculating the parameters determining the scatter of charges around regular lattice sites. The radial charge distribution of this model shows oscillations in all finite concentrations even if the second-moment condition is fulfilled.
