Dielectric examination of glass-forming systems. Part 1.—Simple systems
Abstract
The dielectric properties of a number of simple glass-forming systems have been investigated in the region of the glass-transition temperature. The temperature dependence of the magnitude of the susceptibility function, the characteristic loss frequency and the Dissado–Hill shape parameters m and n have all been measured and are reported.
It is proposed that the approach to the glass-transition temperature by the characteristic frequency, ωp, is of a power-law form and that the same power relates the magnitude function to the characteristic frequency in the low-temperature, β-response region. It is shown that the shape parameters for the mixtures investigated are temperature dependent, and it is suggested that this is due to the formation of the metastable glassy structure.
