Comparison of the effect of back-donation in SiF 2–6 and IO 5–6

Abstract

This article attempts to compare the effect of back-donation in SiF2–6 and IO5–6. It has been established that back-donation plays an important role in stabilizing the eg orbital of the SiF2–6 molecule-ion. An Xα calculation has been conducted on SiF2–6 and IO5–6. We believe that back-donation stabilized the eg orbital even in an extreme case such as IO5–6.
