Proton-induced ligand uptake by [Mn2(CO)5(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2] to give hydrogen-bridged dimanganese complexes

Abstract

[Mn2(CO)5(dpm)2](dpm = Ph2PCH2PPh2) does not react with nucleophiles but reacts readily with acids absorbing CO to give [Mn2(µ-H)(CO)6(dpm)2]+ which with LiBHEt3 regenerates [Mn2(CO)5(dpm)2]; if other anionic or neutral ligands are present, these may be co-ordinated on protonation instead of CO.
