Benzo[c]cinnolines. Part 3. Halogenation studies. N.m.r. spectroscopic study of benzo[c]cinnoline and its monobromo-derivatives

Abstract

Electrophilic bromination and chlorination of benzo[c]cinnoline in sulphuric acid give mixtures of 1-and 4-halogenobenzo[c]cinnolines, then 1,4-dihalogenobenzo[c]cinnolines. The 1H n.m.r. spectra of the monobromobenzo[c]cinnolines have been analysed and previous assignments made for the parent benzo[c]cinnoline are corrected.
