‘CH3O+’ and CH2O+H: High barriers to isomerization
Abstract
Contrary to a recent report, the ‘perpendicular’ hydroxymethyl cation (3) is not responsible for the high isomerization barrier between ‘CH3O+’(better described as H2·HCO+, a loose hydrogen–formyl cation complex) and CH2O+H (protonated formaldehyde).
