The sugar unit of solamargine (2; R = solasod-5-en-3β-yl) has been shown to be β-chacotriose {O-6-deoxy-α-L-mannopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-[6-deoxy-α-L-mannopyranosyl-(1→4)]-β-D-glucopyranose (2; R = H)}.
