Studies on alkoxyheterocyclic compounds. Part II. Hydrolysis of 2-methoxy-1-methylbenzimidazoles

Abstract

The kinetics of the hydrolysis of 2-methoxy-1-methylbenzimidazole and of the corresponding 5-nitro-derivative have been investigated as a function of pH. The results, together with some evidence from 18O exchange, indicate the presence of several reaction paths which vary in importance with medium acidity.
