E.s.c.a. studies of some transition-metal carbonyl complexes containing organonitrogen ligands

Abstract

E.s.c.a. spectra have been obtained for complexes of the type π-C5H5M(CO)2N:CR2(I) and π-C5H5M(CO)2R2CNCR2(II)(M = Mo or W; R =p-tolyl or p-CF3·C6H4). The observed binding energies have been used, in conjunction with other spectroscopic data, to discuss structure and bonding in these complexes and the isomeric forms of (II). A correlation between metal binding energies and the stretching frequencies of attached carbonyl groups has been found.
