Kinetics of electron transfer: the reaction of acetatopenta-amminecobalt(III) with N-methyliminodiacetatoiron(II)
Abstract
The rate of reduction of acetatopenta-amminecobalt(III) by iron(II) is greatly enhanced by the presence of N-methyliminodiacetic acid (H2L). In glycine buffer medium the effective reducing agent is FeIIL, and the reaction is of the second order: -d[CoIII]/dt= k2[CoIII(NH3)5OAc2+][FeIIL] with k2=(1·52 ± 0·12)× 10–3 dm3 mol–1 s–1 at 25 °C, ionic strength 1·0M(NaClO4); ΔH2‡=(21·7 ± 1·1) kcal mol–1.
