Complexes of tungsten halides with some sulphides (thioethers)

Abstract

The complexing behaviour of a variety of sulphides with tungsten hexachloride and pentachloride has been surveyed. Unlike the reactions with nitrogen and phosphorus donors there is little tendency for the reduction of tungsten, under the mild reaction conditions employed. Complexes of the type WCl6L2, WCl6L, and WCl5L2 have been synthesised, along with many non-stoicheiometric materials. The stability of these adducts is ascribed to the special requirements of the ligands.
