Pulse radiolytic induced transient electrical conductance in liquid solutions. Part 1.—Technique and the radiolysis of water
Abstract
A sensitive technique is described for the study of transient ionic intermediates produced in the radiolysis of liquid solutions. Results are given for the radiolysis of water in the pH range 4-10. Rate constants for e–aq+ H3O+ and OH–+ H3O+ are in good agreement with values obtained by other methods. Activation energies have been measured for both reactions and for the diffusion of the hydrated electron.
