Quinoline alkaloids. Part X. (+)-Platydesminium salt and other alkaloids from Skimmia japonica Thunb. The synthesis of edulinine

Abstract

The principal tertiary base in Skimmia japonica Thunb. is the furanoquinoline alkaloid, dictamnine, but skimmianine and eduline are also present. A new quaternary alkaloid, (+)-platydesminium salt, has been identified. The structure of edulinine has been confirmed by synthesis.
