Free-radical substitution in aliphatic compounds. Part XIX. Chlorination of 2,2-dimethylhexane
Abstract
The gas-phase chlorination of 2,2-dimethylhexane has been studied in a static system, in the temperature range 70–200°. No evidence was observed for ‘neopentyl’ type rearrangement during halogenation. Evidence was obtained, however, for intramolecular hydrogen atom transfer from C(5) to C(1) in the appropriate radical.
