A common stereoelectronic requirement in epimerisations with some diterpene alcohols

Abstract

A common stereoelectronic requirement is satisfied in the epimerisation by weak alkali of the cis-alcohols, (I), (II), (III), and (IV), into the trans-epimers, (V), (VI)(VII), and (VIII), respectively, and that of the β-axial alcohol (XVIII) of the gibberellin series into its α-equatorial epimer (XIX).
