A differential scanning calorimeter with radiant heating and control

Abstract

A differential scanning calorimeter has been constructed, in which heating and control are by means of focused radiation from projection lamps. This system of remote heating enables a robust and versatile sample holding assembly to be used. The intrument has been used for thermal analysis between 30 and 400°C and for microcalorimetry; a good performance by existing standards can be achieved, in resolution and sensitivity, as well as in calorimetric accuracy. A special feature is the provision of electrical calibration, which allows absolute measurements to be made up to 350°C.
