Structures of axillarine and axillaridine, novel pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Crotalaria axillaris Ait

Abstract

Structures are proposed for axillarine and axillaridine, isolated from Crotalaria axillaris seed. The significance of these structures in relation to the biosynthesis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids which contain macrocyclic diester rings is discussed.
