Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. The stereochemistry of monocrotalic and trichodesmic acids

Abstract

Monocrotalic acid (IIIa) is shown to have the absolute configuration (2R,3R,4R). Trichodesmic acid (IIIc), previously assigned the (2R,3R,4R)- or (2S,3S,4S)-configuration is shown to have the same chirality at the asymmetric centres as monocrotalic acid.
