Analgetic analogues. Part I. Derivatives of 2,3,3a,4,5,9b-hexahydro-9b-methyl-1H-benz[e]indole

Abstract

The N-methyl (XVII) and N-dimethylallyl (XVIII) derivatives of the title compound (XVI) have been synthesised from 3,4-dihydro-1-methylnaphthalen-2(1H)-one (II). The thermal rearrangement of (2,2-ethylenedioxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-methyl-1-naphthyl)acetic acid (IV) to 3a,4,5,9b-tetrahydro-3a-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-9b-methylnaphtho[2,1-b]furan-2(1H)-one (IX) was encountered during this work.
