Nitrido-, oxo-, and imido-complexes. Part I. Nitrido-cyano-complexes of rhenium(V)

Abstract

ReNBr2(PPh3)2 has been treated with potassium cyanide in methanol to give K2[ReN(CN)4],H2O and K3[ReN(CN)5]. The interconversion of these two salts has been studied, and salts containing other cations have been prepared. The i.r. spectrum of K2[ReN(CN)4],H2O is consistent with [ReN(CN)4H2O]2– ions in solution, and infinite chains of alternating Re–N in the solid, with four cyanide groups round each rhenium atom.
