Ethyl β-propylamino- and β-isobutylamino-cinnamates have been prepared and condensed with benzoquinone, 2-methylbenzoquinone, and 1,4-naphthoquinone to give 1-alkyl 5-hydroxy-2-phenylindole derivatives.
