Total synthesis of stebisimine

Abstract

Schotten–Baumann reaction of 3′,4,5-trimethoxy-3,4′-oxybisphenethylamine (II) with 4-methoxy-3,4′-oxybisphenylacetyl chloride (VIII) gave two amides (IX) and (X). The former bisamide (IX) was cyclised to give a mixture of the corresponding 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines, which were separated by chromatography to give stebisimine (I).
