The decarbonylation of aldehydes by tris(triphenylphosphine)chlororhodium(I)

Abstract

The observed rate for the decarbonylation of n-valeraldehyde by tris(triphenylphosphine)chlororhodium(I), RhCl(PPh3)3, in dichloromethane solution at 20° is given by the equation: Rate =k1[RhCl(PPh3)3]+k2[RhCl(PPh3)3][C4H9CHO], where k1= 5·68 × 10–5 sec.–1 and k2= 1·81 × 10–4 l. mole–1 sec.–1.
