The diprotonation of polynuclear cinnolines in sulphuric acid
Abstract
Polynuclear cinnolines, which are monoprotonated in moderately strong acids, are shown by cryoscopic measurements to be diprotonated in 100% sulphuric acid. The solutions show intense colours, probably due to the formation of quinoids structures, which alter when water is added.
