Annelation and other effects in the ultraviolet absorption of polynuclear cinnolines and some analogous hydrocarbons

Abstract

The effects of angular and linear annelation on the ultraviolet spectra of polynuclear cinnolines and some analogous hydrocarbons have been studied. It is shown that certain shifts of the group III absorption bands resulting from angular annelation can be interpreted with the aid of vector diagrams. The effects of alkylation and N-oxidation on the spectra of cinnolines are also discussed.
