A simple magnetic balance for determining the magnetic susceptibilities of solid paramagnetic substances at room temperature is described. In this, the force exerted by a cylindrical sample on a small permanent magnet (weight 190 g., field strength 5500 oersteds) is measured with a conventional analytical balance.
