Platinum complexes with unsaturated amines. Part V. Thermodynamics of formation of complexes with unsaturated alcohols

Abstract

Stability constants for the formation of platinum(II)–olefin complexes with unsaturated alcohols have been measured by a spectrophotometric method. Enthalpy and entropy changes, obtained from the temperature-dependence of the stability constants, indicate that the stability constants with unsaturated alcohols are higher than those with unsaturated ammonium cations largely owing to solvation effects. But-3-en-1-ol reacted with the tetrachloroplatinate(II) ion in the presence of dilute acid to give a butadiene–platinum(II) complex.
