Ion exchange equilibria in molecular sieve 4A
Abstract
Ion exchange equilibria of 45Ca2+, Cd2+ and Zn2+ from some solutions of organic and inorganic sodium salts on the molecular sieve 4A, as cation exchanger, have been observed. The effect of the nature and the concentration of the electrolyte on the equilibria is shown. A general equation log (1/Kd–1/K°d)+m log [NaR]/[Na+]=n log [A–]–log K′ can be used for the determination of the ion exchange equilibrium constant K′ of the complexed ion and the number n of ligands in the complexes formed.
