Viridin. Part III. The structure of a tetracyclic C17 product of oxidation with hydrogen peroxide
Abstract
Oxidation of viridin with hydrogen peroxide gives, as the principal product, a carboxylic acid C17H12O5, H2O. Evidence is adduced that shows this to be 2,3-dihydro-10-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-oxo-1H-cyclopenta[7,8]naphtho[2,3-b]furan-7-carboxylic acid monohydrate.
