Photocyclisation strategy for the synthesis of antitumour agent CC-1065: synthesis of thiophene analogues of PDE-I and PDE-II

Abstract

The thienoindoline derivatives (9a) and (9b), which represent the first isosteric analogues of the phosphodiesterase inhibitors PDE-I (2) and PDE-II (3), have been synthesised by a photochemical route, starting from simple thiophene and pyrrole precursors.
