Relative quantum yields for the formation and destruction of pentacarbonyl molybdenum, Mo(CO)5, in low temperature matrices

Abstract

The ratio of the quantum yields for the formation of Mo(CO)5 by u.v. photolysis of Mo(CO)6, and its destruction by visible light, has been measured for CH4, Ar and CO matrices. The ratio shows a large dependence on the matrix material. The mechanistic implications of this dependence are discussed.
