Antimony-121 Mössbauer spectra of some six-co-ordinate mono- and diorganoantimonate(V) compounds

Abstract

The 121Sb Mössbauer spectra are reported for a series of mono- and di-organoantimonate(V) salts containing the octahedral species [SbRX5] and [SbR2X4](R = Me or Ph, X = F, Cl, Br, N3, or NCS). The data have been analyzed using a transmission-integral analysis and the importance of this approach is emphasized. The results are discussed with reference to the chemical bonding in organoantimony compounds, and to relations with corresponding organotin compounds. The structure of SbMe2Cl3 is considered to be six-co-ordinate with bridging chlorine atoms and trans-organic groups.
