Kinetics of reaction of rhenium pentacarbonyl halides with cyanide ion in aqueous methanol

Abstract

The reactions of rhenium pentacarbonyl halides with a large excess of cyanide ion in aqueous methanolic solution follow a kinetic pattern characteristic of consecutive first-order processes [equation (i)]. Rate laws and kinetic [Re(CO)5X] [graphic omitted] [Re(CN)(CO)4X] [graphic omitted] [RE(CN)2(CO)4](i) parameters are reported for these reactions, with X = Cl, Br, or I.
