Tetranitratoaurates(III) : preparation, spectra, and properties

Abstract

Reactions of gold and some of its compounds with nitrogen(IV) and nitrogen(V) oxide systems have given rise to the series of compounds MAu(NO3)4(M = Na, K, Rb, Cs, NO2, and NO). In the potassium salt all four nitrate groups in the anion are known to be bonded in the same unidentate manner, providing the first authenticated example of a square-planar complex containing only unidentate nitrate ligands. The vibrational spectra and properties of the tetranitratoaurates(III) are discussed in the light of this structure.
