Azabenzocycloheptenones. Part XII. Application of the Lansbury synthesis to the preparation of tetrahydro-1-benzazepin-3-ones

Abstract

Methyl N-p-tolylsulphonylanthranilate and methyl 4-chloro-N-p-tolylsulphonylanthranilate have been converted via the N-2-chloroprop-2-enyl derivatives into the corresponding benzyl alcohols, which cyclised in 90% sulphuric acid to give N-p-tolylsulphonyltetrahydro-1-benzazepin-3-ones.
