Polyfluoroarenes. Part XIII. Further homolytic reactions of polyfluoroiodobenzenes

Abstract

Pentafluorophenyl radicals, derived from the photolysis or thermal decomposition of pentafluoroiodobenzene react with 1,2,4,5-tetrafluorobenzene to give 4H-nonafluorobiphenyl; similar homolytic reactions of the di-iodo-compounds, p-C6F4I2 and o-C6F4I2, with benzene afford good yields of polyfluoro-terphenyls and -biphenyls. Reaction of the iodo- and di-iodo-compounds with C–H bonds or with water leads to the replacement of iodine by hydrogen, and the di-iodo-compounds react with carbon tetrachloride to give the corresponding dichlorotetrafluorobenzenes.
