Optically active co-ordination compounds. Part XIX. Relative configurations of trisbipyridyl and trisphenanthroline complexes by chemical interconversion

Abstract

The optical configurations of (+)-[Ru(phen)3]2+ and of (+)-[Ru)(bipy)3]2+ have been correlated by a chemical method. By using available Bijvoet and Cotton-effect data, the absolute configurations of the known complexes (+)-[M(AA)3]2+, where AA is 2,2′-bipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline, are collected. These agree with the results of recent excition calculations.
