The sign of the quadrupole interaction in some tin(II) compounds

Abstract

The signs of the quadrupole coupling constants, e2qQ, in the compounds SnF2, SnO, SnS, Sn3(PO4)2, and SnC2O4 have been determined to resolve inconsistencies in the literature, and all have a positive value, implying that the dominant contribution to the electricfield gradient arises from the pz electron density in the non-bonding orbital.
