Thiophen derivatives. Part XIX. The behaviour of benzo[b]selenophens under electron impact; comparison with benzo[b]thiophens

Abstract

The mass spectrometry of benzo[b]selenophen, of its 2- and 3-methyl homologues, and of benzo[b]selenophen-2-aldehyde has been investigated. Whilst the fragmentation of these compounds follows the pattern of the corresponding benzo[b]thiophens, the benzo[b]selenophens proved relatively more fragile, selenium being easily split off.
