Rates of ionisation and enolisation of some aliphatic ketones

Abstract

Values are reported for the rates of ionisation or enolisation of diethyl ketone, di-isopropyl ketone, 1-bromopropan-2-one, 2-bromopentan-3-one, 2-chloropentan-3-one and propan-2-one-1,3-disulphonate ion in presence of various catalysts in aqueous solution at 25°. pK-Values for propan-2-one-1,3-disulphonate ion and propan-2-one-1-sulphonate ion have also been measured. The effects of substituents on the observed rates and equilibria are discussed.
