Infra-red dispersion studies. Part 7.—Band intensities and atomic polarizations of CX2= CCl2(X = H, F, Cl) molecules

Abstract

Refractive index data over a range of wavelength in the infra-red region have been obtained for CX2= CCl2(X = H, F, Cl) molecules. From these dispersion curves, vibrational band intensities and atomic polarizations have been obtained. An interpretation of the band intensities indicates that there is a reversal of the CH bond moment on going from ethylene to vinylidene chloride.
