Reactions of complex compounds of cobalt. Part VII. Studies of the mechanism of degradation of co-ordinated salicylic acid

Abstract

The mechanisms of the oxidative degradation of salicylatobis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) ion to oxalatobis(ethylene-diamine)cobalt(III) ion with acid permanganate has been investigated by 14C-labelling of specific positions in the aromatic ring. The stoicheiometry of this reaction has also been studied. A convenient aromatisation of cyclohexanone to phenol is described.
