Catalytic properties of H mordenite modified with fluorine

Abstract

H mordenite has been modified using ammonium fluoride solutions and gaseous CHF3. During treatment, some of the acidic OH groups were substituted with fluorine and the acid strength of the remaining hydroxyls was enhanced because of the inductive effect of the fluorine. This was reflected in the higher catalytic activity of the samples for cumene cracking and the higher values of the heats of adsorption for ammonia.
