Mild mono and double demethylation in dimethylsulfonium substituted ruthenacarborane complexes. A regioselective reaction

Abstract

Reaction of [RuCl26-C6H6)]2 with [10-(CH3)2S-7,8-nido-C2B9H10] or [9-(CH3)2S-7,8-nido-C2B9H10] afforded the expected cationic complexes [Ru(η5-n-(CH3)2S-7,8-C2B9H10)(η6-C6H6)]+ (n = 10, (1); 9, (3)), but also the unexpected neutral Ru(η5-10-HS-7,8-C2B9H10)(η6-C6H6) (2) or Ru(η5-9-(CH3)S-7,8-C2B9H10)(η6-C6H6) (4) by double and mono demethylation of the (CH3)2S moiety, respectively.
