Facile synthesis and optical properties of hybrid micro-wires based on Ln(DBM)3·H2O complexes

Abstract

Novel hybrid micro-wires based on Ln(DBM)3·H2O (DBM = dibenzoylmethanate) complexes were synthesized by a facile re-crystallisation route. Three types of hybrid micro-wires were obtained; Eu(DBM)3·H2O micro-wires (EuDBM-MW), Tb(DBM)3·H2O micro-wires (TbDBM-MW), and Sm(DBM)3·H2O micro-wires (SmDBM-MW). The three samples show corresponding characteristic luminescence, respectively. Moreover, IR spectra, XRD patterns, optical microscopy, diffuse reflectance (DR), SEM images, TEM images, and photoluminescence (PL) properties were employed to characterize the structure and properties of these hybrid micro-wires. The emission quantum efficiency (η) of the 5D0 level and the number of water molecules (nw) coordinated to the Eu3+ ions were further calculated.
