Nuclearity of nickel and mixed sodium–nickel complexes: dependence on the spacer in chelating pyridine-alcoholate ligands

Abstract

Modifying the HL/Ni(II) stoichiometry in the reaction between pyridine-2-ylmethanol (HL), [NiCl2(DME)] and NaH affords [Na3Ni4L93-OH)]Cl (1) or the new, unusual Na10Ni6 polynuclear complex [Na8(NaL)2(NiL3)65-OH)2] (2); starting from pyridine-2-ylethanol (HLEt) instead yielded [Ni3(μ-LEt)23-LEt)2(LEt)(HLEt)]Cl, whose magnetic properties are reported.
