Polyhedral rearrangement of a metallacarbaborane group in a dimetal complex: transformation of a metal-bound alkylidyne ligand into a B-alkyl substituent on the carbaborane cage

Abstract

Reaction of [N(PPh3)2][W([triple bond, length half m-dash]CR)(CO)25-1,2-C2B9H9Me2)](1, R = C6H4Me-4) with [trans-PtH(acetone)(PEt3)2][BF4] affords [PtW(CO)2(PEt3)26-C2B9H8(CH2R)Me2}](2), which with PMe3 or CO yields [PtW(µ-H){µ-σ,η5-C2B9H7-(CH2R)Me2}(CO)2(L)(PEt3)2](3a), L = PMe3; 3b, L = CO); the molecular structures of (2) and (3a) have been established by X-ray diffraction.
